FAQ's

Kings Beach State Recreation Area As of Thursday May 15, 2014, California State Parks has begun operating and maintaining the Kings Beach State Recreation Area (SRA) and boat launch. State Parks looks forward to working with the community, and bringing the Department’s resources to Kings Beach.

Here is an overview:

Will hours of operation change?
No. The park will be open during the same hours which are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Will there be any changes to the entrance fees?
Day use fees will remain the same, $10. Until further notice, State Parks will accept and honor the rate payer decals issued by NTPUD for area residents. The day use fees will be the same in the boat launch parking lot. The ramp will not be usable this summer due to drought conditions.

Will services be impacted?
No. Services will remain unchanged, and the park will remain open and accessible to everyone.

Are dogs going to be allowed at the beach?
Per State Parks regulations and Placer County Ordinances currently posted, dogs are not allowed on the beach. Dogs are allowed within the park (e.g., sidewalks, parking lot, playground), unless posted, but must be on a leash at all times.

Is alcohol allowed in the park?
Per State Parks regulations and Placer County Ordinances currently posted, alcohol consumption is not allowed on the beach or in the State Recreation Area.

Why is the Kings Beach lot impacted by construction?
The Kings Beach community revitalization project construction is temporarily impacting access to the park. We are working with the construction company and the County to reduce the duration of the impacts as construction allows. Please be cautious when walking by and driving through construction zones.

What about access in the winter?
The parking lot will remain open during the winter and throughout the year. State Parks is neither closing nor limiting access to either the park or the parking lot. Programs, activities, events and services will continue for visitors and the community.

How will events be handled?
State Parks is experienced with handling a variety of events across the State that serve millions of visitors in multiple communities. State Parks will engage event applicants and review their proposals. State Parks will continue to permit as many special events as possible while balancing impacts to our mission, the park, our visitors, and the local community.

How do you plan to use Rangers/law enforcement capability?
Park Rangers will continue to help provide a safe and informative environment while seeking compliance to already established rules and regulations.

Who will operate the boat ramp?
Parks will be operating the ramp but it will be closed until further notice due to low water levels caused by drought conditions.

How will State Parks fund operations of Kings Beach?
State Parks is confident we will be able to effectively manage the properties with available funding.

What are the future plans for the Pier?
The pier is part of a larger community discussion. In the near future, State Parks and the CTC will be engaging with the Kings Beach community, Placer County and other regional and local partners and stakeholders to work through improvement of the pier. Final upgrades should be consistent with the Community Plan Updating Process and the needs of the local community.

Are you charging at the California Tahoe Conservancy properties?
Not at this time.

Are you going to allow camping?
No. KBSRA does not have the capacity for camping. The park is a day use facility.

How do I get a copy of the rules and where they apply?
These rules are available at the entrance kiosk. CA State Park rules and regulations can be found in Title 14 Division 3 of the California Code of Regulations.
