The convenient, lakeside Tahoe State Recreation Area (TSRA) campground is a dream vacation waiting for you. The campground is .25 miles from charming Tahoe City where you can ride your bike to Squaw Valley for the day, raft down the Truckee River or visit the Gatekeeper Museum (link to Gatekeeper museum) to learn about local history.
The biggest attraction, of course, is the Lake itself. With a maximum depth of 1,645 feet, Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the United States -- trailing only Crater Lake in Oregon. It is approximately 22 miles long and 12 mile wide -- creating 72 miles of shoreline that goes from beautiful golden and white sandy beaches on the South, West and North side of the lake to rugged rock outcrops on the eastside.
Once a destination for travelers to and from the Comstock Lode (c.1870’s) that featured a narrow-gauge railway stop and the steamer S.S. Tahoe, Tahoe City’s century-old heritage, historic sites (some claim haunted) and museums provide much history to explore. The charming town of Tahoe City (population 1,760) is perched on the shore of Lake Tahoe at the headwaters of the Truckee River (Lake Tahoe’s only outlet). A plethora of options for fun awaits you. Jog/walk/bike/skate the paved trail system along the Lake, across the historic Lake Tahoe dam and down the river. Soak up the summer sun with a host of challenging water sports. Family fun.
